Volunteer!

Some of my formative years happened in Tennessee, the Volunteer State.  The call of loving my neighbor as my self (the Golden Rule, Mark 12:31), especially through rewarding hard work, was repeated daily in my nineteen year career at JCPenney (check out James Cash Penney).  At Indian Creek Community Church I still wear the lime green Live Out bracelet that challenged the congregation and our community to live out the love of Jesus Christ...

There are a handful of ways that I am volunteering: with YouthFriends as a lunch buddy to four or more young men, one at Countryside Elementary, two at Pioneer Trail, and one at Olathe North High School; at Indian Creek by occasionally hosting our Ten Minute Party and working with some special task forces; as a member of the Chairman's Liaison of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce; and a few other things. How about you?  I'd love to encourage you and to be encouraged.  It's not about tooting a horn, truly.  Volunteering is a way of life that I believe can bring goodness to a community and everyone involved in the activity.  It's a marvelous thing.  So let's encourage one another to volunteer and to give our best as we give our time.

One new opportunity that I'd like you to consider is to volunteer with the Patriots' Run.  Please contact Dean A. Long at (913)825-1264 or Cell (913) 206-6406. He and his team would appreciate ANY assistance you can give; even as little as one or two hours, but of course you can give more. Everyone is welcome to volunteer.  Come and watch the race and the amazing bands while helping out at this year's Patriots' Run.

The Patriots' Run Organization is a Non-Profit, 501c3 Organization, so if you can't afford your time please send them some love (try multiples of $20.00, everyone always loves a twenty, the more the merrier) in an envelope!

Do you want to run?  Click here for more information.  The race will be held at the Great Mall of the Great Plains, 151st Street and 169 Highway (20700 West 151st Street, Olathe, Kansas, 66061), in Olathe Kansas with a bunch of the stores in the mall participating. There will be games for the kids, refreshments, medals and more!
